Harry didn’t do all that many illustrations for The American, part of the Crowell-Collier empire – he illustrated 13 stories in total, and 6 of those were installments for Four Blocks Apart. The American was a monthly and had relatively high production values. Harry’s The American work is interesting because it shows his full-color style and capabilities during the depths of the Great Depression. I have removed story text for a cleaner presentation.
