Timmins was assigned his first Detective O’Malley story in 1931. O’Malley, the creation of author William Mac Harg, first appeared in Collier’s in 1930. F. D. Steele had illustrated the five installments preceding the one where Timmins first got the nod. Timmins’ style was a great fit for the stories, and he ultimately illustrated approximately 80 O’Malley installments between 1931 and 1942. Below is a sample of O’Malley illustrations by Timmins during the period 1931-33.
